Through Mask Making
I made my first mask.
The staff retreat I attended last week at Stillheart Institute had a theme “Your Inner Wisdom Mask”. We made masks of our own faces. The project was facilitated by Kaleo & Elise Ching. http://www.kaleoching.com. They are a very talented couple. Supportive and patient in the process of mask making. I highly recommend participating in one of their workshops.
We learned a Chi Kung prayer. Then we did guided journeying to access and manifest our personal Inner Wisdom. We learned to make masks in a special way without straws up the nose. We wore grubby clothes as this is a kinda messy process. We had to cut 8 different size pieces of paper. Which when dipped in very warm water and applied to face became a plaster mold. Our masks dried overnight before we painted and decorated/embellished them.
My journeying brought me to Native American Indian dancing. In my picture above there are artifacts including arrowhead, shell, feathers, imitation eagle claw, and a deer antler.
Quotes on masks:
“Man is least himself when he talks in his own person. Give him a mask, and he will tell you the truth.” – Oscar Wilde
“When I do a mask, I do try to put a lot of character and a lot of expression into the sculpt.” – Rick Baker
