How can you help keep California beautiful?

I am…volunteering.

One way is by volunteering to participate in California Coastal Cleanup Day. Yesterday I volunteered with other members of my church to help clean the shoreline in Burlingame. (That’s me on the far right in picture.) We we’re provided with gloves and bags for garbage and recyclable items. The item I saw the most was cigarette butts. Weather was pleasant with just a light breeze. Plus it was fun to work alongside friends. Oh, and the beach looked beautiful when everyone finished.

Quotes on volunteering:

•”Because I know I can contribute, I therefore believe I can volunteer my contribution.” – Preston Tulay, former Peace Corps and UN Volunteer.

•”Volunteers are the only human beings on the face of the earth who reflect this nation’s compassion, unselfish caring, patience, and just plain love for one another.” – Erma Bombeck

•”Volunteers are not paid — not because they are worthless, but because they are priceless.” – Author unknown

•”Volunteering is the ultimate exercise in democracy. You vote in elections once a year, but when you volunteer, you vote every day about the kind of community you want to live in.” – Author unknown
•”Volunteering can be an exciting, growing, enjoyable experience. It is truly gratifying to serve a cause, practice one’s ideals, work with people, solve problems, see benefits, and know one had a hand in them.” – Harriet Naylor
