Walking meditation-2

I am…walking in nature.  Another form of meditation. With a walking meditation the experience of walking becomes the focus.

Using nature for walks can aid in facilitating self-awareness and promoting healing. For me being out in nature is good for promoting health, well-being and encouraging healing.

Techniques to try when walking include focusing on the breath. While breathing normally notice the numbers of steps that are taken as you inhale and exhale. Another technique is to focus on an affirmation like “I am…calm”. Repeat the phrase in pace with your walking.

Quote on walking in nature:

Our true home is in the present moment.
To live in the present moment is a miracle.
The miracle is not to walk on water.
The miracle is to walk on the green Earth
in the present moment… – Thich Nhat Hanh

“Walking meditation involves intentionally attending to the experience of walking itself. This brings your attention to the actual experience of walking as you are doing it, focusing on the sensations in your feet and legs, feeling your whole body moving.” – John Kabat-Zinn

“Walking around an early spring garden going nowhere.” – Kyoshi

“Walking is the great adventure, the first meditation, a practice of heartiness and soul primary to humankind. Walking is the exact balance between spirit and humility.” – Gary Snyder

“In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks.”John Muir
