International Day of Peace

I am…peaceful

How about that message for starting a week? Focus on being filled with peace and radiating peace to everyone you meet.

Tuesday this week is International Day of Peace as established by the United Nations. One can go back to Sept 1982 to observe the first such day. The U.N. General Assembly has declared this as a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and people.  In 2001 the General Assembly unanimously voted to designate the Day as a period of non-violence and cease-fire.

This year’s theme is ” Recovering better for an equitable and sustainable world”. U.N. General Assembly suggests we celebrate peace by standing up against acts of hate online and offline, and by spreading compassion, kindness, and hope in the face of the pandemic, and as we recover.

How can we help to raise the focus on peace in the world? We could demonstrate peace in our own life. I know that peace begins with my own thoughts. How about joining me in focusing on peace?

Namaste.
