National Oatmeal Cookie Day
Starting at the end. I purchased package of Trader Joe’s Vegan Oatmeal Chocolate Chip cookies on Sunday April 26th. Never tried them before. The cookies are dense and easy to chew. Different from most oatmeal cookies I have eaten. Taste is mild.
Growing up I remember eating Mother’s brand oatmeal cookies. They were thin and crisp. I like the crispness. When I started working in downtown SF on my morning coffee break, we would go next door to Chevron building cafeteria. I would get a two-cup container of coffee and two oatmeal cookies. When no one was looking I would dip the cookie in the coffee. Suck out the liquid and easily bite and chew a piece of the cookie. Yum.
Yes, today is National Oatmeal Cookie Day. Each year on the 30th of April. Oatmeal cookies have been around since the 1800s. Today on most buffets, you find chocolate chip and oatmeal cookies. Two favorites.
Benefits to eating oatmeal cookies. Oatmeal reduces the risk of heart disease. It may lower cholesterol. It may reduce your risk of cancer. (American Cancer Society suggests eating a diet high in fiber as it may reduce your risk of cancer). Good source of fiber and iron. Oatmeal is low in calories and fat. And bottom line they taste good.
How to observe today. Bake some and share with a friend. Or just sit down and enjoy an oatmeal cookie with a glass of milk or your favorite beverage.
