I just discovered this yesterday. I have two black cats. They are seventeen years old. I adopted them from the Peninsula Humane Society in San Mateo, CA when they were four years old. Their owner was moving to Italy and did not want to take them along. And I was looking to adopt two cats so they could entertain themselves when I was out working This was a couple of years after my previous black cat Shadow had died. I have no phobias about black cats. Mine are very cuddly. They both even try to be in my lap at the same time. The big guy who is 18 pounds usually wins. The female may hiss at him and then she jumps down.
Here is to the two blessings in my life, Elliot and Jasmine. May we have many more years together.

Black cats can change color. Black cats that also have the Tabby stripe gene have fur that can turn a rusty brown color after they have been lounging in the sun for a long time. I have not seen this happen with my two cats.
