National Black Cat Appreciation Day
I wrote a blog for this last year. I discovered the Appreciation Day one day before I wrote that blog. This year I am on a little vacation right now at Asilomar retreat center and I was looking on my computer for artwork for my business (I am brainstorming on making a new product) when I ran across last year’s blog on appreciating black cats. And guess what tomorrow is just that day. Seems like I am repeating my discovering this day just one day before it happens.
Yes, I still very much appreciate my cats. Though this year I had to let my male cat Elliot, the big guy, I called him go. That was at the end of May as he was having kidney failure. I was planning to go to Cambria for a few days and just couldn’t leave him in the care of my neighbors while I went away. He was over 17 years old. This leaves his partner Jasmine behind. She is adjusting. She started crying after he was gone. She never used her voice when he was around. He always let me know if I forgot to feed them and when he wanted to explore the garage. He like climb the stairs to attic access as it got nice and warm to hot up there. When they were out in the garage, he would either scratch or meow at the door to be let back in. Jasmine on the other hand if she was out there on her own would just sit and wait for the me to think about her and then open the door to find her waiting to get back in.
Jasmine as replaced Elliot with the nightly bedtime routine. She now coming up on my chest for some rubbing and then gets off and goes to sleep by my feet. Elliot would do that every night and then sleep near the top of the bed. I think that was because in the wintertime I would put a heating pad for both to sleep on near the top of the bed.
Yes, I love and appreciate having cats for a pet even black ones. Wonderful lap warmers for sure.
